Oysters, Camels, and Outhouses!
Oysters, camels, parades and outhouses round out the usual and unusual things a visitor can see in Virginia City. In 2014, even more great events will give you plenty of reasons to head to the Comstock.
Kicking off 2014 is the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry, where you can come dressed in your best St. Patrick's Day garb and sample some tasty testes and wash them down with some Irish beer.
In June, check out the Comstock Muckfest, a celebration of our mining heritage up here on the Comstock. This competition, a throwback to the early days of mining, has teams competing in mining-themed events.
Who would have ever thought that camels could race? But that's just what they do when they're not spitting at their opponents every September in Virginia City. Camels were used by the U.S. Army to pack wood, salt and freight in the 1860s. Years later, thousands gather for this hilarious event.
In October, people with a penchant for having "places to go" race down Virginia City streets with outhouses. No deposit required for this must-see-to-believe event.
