Another Camel Races weekend down, Virginia City, and it did not disappoint! 🐪🎉
Friday's Locals Night got things started, the races kept everyone on their feet all weekend, and Family Day on Sunday brought it home. The camels, ostriches, and zebras gave us plenty to cheer about, but honestly, the turnout from this community is what made it special. 🙌
Thank you to everyone who showed up and celebrated with us. Can't wait to see you all again next year! ✨🐪

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re highlighting the Maldonado brothers and their important role in Virginia City, NV, history.
Originally from Mexico, the brothers owned the Mexican Mine, one of the largest and most profitable mines in Virginia City, where hundreds of people were employed.
Associate Guest Curator DT Burns notes that the Maldonado brothers shared mining methods with Henry Comstock in the late 1850s and early 1860s, and later employed John Mackay, who learned valuable expertise while working with them.
Their contributions are part of the larger story of the Comstock and the people who helped shape it.

The wait is over friends! Camel Races weekend is here. 🐪
The 67th International Camel & Ostrich Races return to Virginia City, NV, Sept. 11–13 for three days of camels, ostriches, zebras, emus, entertainment, food trucks, vendors, event bars, and one of Northern Nevada’s most wonderfully unusual traditions.
Kick things off Friday evening at Hot Camel Nights, catch two shows Saturday, or bring the family Sunday for Family Day, when the first 100 kids get a free camel ride.
If you’ve been saying, “We should go this year,” consider this your sign. 🤠
