If the kiddies and grandma have been good all year (okay, most of the year)… add a little magic to the season and come on out to Virginia City to ride the V&T Candy Cane Express. Steeped in holiday spirit, this whimsical train has become a local tradition for families of all ages.
On the scenic 50-minute journey over the 140-year old V&T railroad route, you will enjoy hot cocoa or cider, candy canes and cookies and sing-a-long carols on the festively decorated train. Listen to a reading of the 1823 classic “T’was the Night Before Christmas,” and watch little faces light up while riding through the enchanting Candy Cane tunnel. Whether the V&T Candy Cane Express is a new experience or one you’ve cherished over the years, it’s a magical event you and your family cherish.

We host our annual Christmas on the Comstock this December, offering a Victorian-style holiday celebration. This small mining town feels like a real-life vintage Christmas book embracing the slower pace of the holiday spirit with lights and shops decorated to the hilt. Festivities for all ages range from unique boutique holiday shopping, specials, a lighted Christmas parade and more. Have some spirited fun on the Grinch Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl, featuring specialty holiday drinks at participating saloons. End the evening with the annual Comstock Cowboys Christmas in the Sierra concert at Piper’s Opera House.
December 1: The holiday season begins with several events taking place throughout the day including:
- Holiday Arts & Crafts Shopping on the Comstock
- Grinch Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl
- Christmas in the Sierras Concert
- Parade of Lights

Nightmare Before Christmas by Piper’s Players: The highly anticipated return of this live production of the Tim Burton classic, Nightmare Before Christmas, makes its way back to the stage of Piper’s Opera House. Tickets range from $15 – $20. It is anticipated the shows will sell out. Four shows are offered including one dinner show and two matinees. Dates are:
