A Holiday Thank You

 In Our Tales

As we get to the end of the year, I keep thinking about how many people it actually takes to keep this town moving. Not just to pull off events or manage tourism, but to keep Virginia City feeling like Virginia City. So, in the spirit of the season, I wanted to say something simple and honest: Thank you.

From my seat as Events and Assistant Tourism Director, I get a front-row view of a lot of things. The early mornings, the late nights, the quiet problem-solving, the teamwork that is never seen in a report. What I don’t always get is the chance to see many of you in person. Most days, I’m buried in permitting, planning, or some spreadsheet that refuses to behave. Even from my office, though, it’s impossible to miss how much work you all put in.

To our merchants, thank you for the role you play in welcoming visitors to town. Your shops and saloons are often the first connection people make here, and those moments help define their Virginia City experience.

To our marketing, creative, and event partners, thank you for keeping up with us, even when the timelines get wild and the projects get weird. We couldn’t do it without you.

To our community organizations and nonprofits, thank you for pushing forward the history, the culture, and the parts of Virginia City that deserve real attention and protection.

To our board, thank you for your guidance, your expectations, and your support throughout the year. Your direction helps us stay focused on what matters most for the town.

To Storey County staff, thank you for the support and collaboration you provide. Our projects can be complicated, and we appreciate every bit of help we get along the way.

To our visitors, thank you for spending your time here and supporting the businesses that help to tell the history of this town.

And to the VCTC team, thank you for working beside me through another year of big ideas, tight timelines, and “one more thing we need to do.” You make the long days easier and the good days even better.

Being part of this community’s work is meaningful, and I’m grateful to have a role in it.

Here’s to a holiday season that’s peaceful, a new year that’s productive, and maybe even a few days where everything goes according to plan!
