Join Piper’s Opera House in celebrating the 60th anniversary for the Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band!
Live music is a staple at PiperÕs Opera House and pipe bands are no exception. This performance will showcase both pipers, drummers and the Northern Nevada Scottish Highland Dancers!
In 1961 the Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band officially formed and became incorporated. The founding members included future Pipe Major, teacher, and most enduring piper, Dr. James F. Flanagan, Junior. It was under FlanaganÕs leadership that the Sierra Highlanders expanded their membership and performances. They played in parades throughout the Reno area, and diverse venues such as San FranciscoÕs St. PatrickÕs Day parade, and county fairs in FlanaganÕs hometown of Quincy, California. The Sierra Highlanders became a fixture of Carson CityÕs Nevada Day Parade each year. Fans would travel great distances to see the band play.
The Show:ÊThe Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band will perform two 30 minute sets with a brief intermission.
