Learn more about Virginia City’s history during a lecture at the Gold Hill Hotel lecture taking place Thursday, April 20 with “What Happened to all the Old Buildings?” by Joe Curtis and Ron Gallagher.
This lecture presents photos of buildings and structures that were in Virginia City in the 1950s but are now gone. Hear some stories about the building’s past and learn what’s there today. In its glory days, the Comstock was a stunning city of mansions, stores, saloons, mills and mines. This lecture explores this with a lively discussion from two local historians.
Joe Curtis: Joe’s parents moved to Virginia City in 1958 when they bought a building and opened a museum dedicated to the history of life on the Comstock. He grew up in the museum and became intrigued with the history and began collecting historic photos of the area.
Ron Gallagher: Raised in Virginia City, Ron has many relatives dating well into the early 1800s and a head full of Comstock knowledge, recollections. stories and other associated Comstock tales.
The lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and the cost is $10 per person.
Arrive early to enjoy dinner before the lecture. Gold Hill serves dinner before the lecture at 4:30, 5 and 5:30 p.m.
