Born out of years of friendship, the Dallas-based band Young Country is comprised of old friends who come together again as Southwestern Pilgrimage. The group takes its original material and combines it with songs from some of the best songwriters in the southwest embellishing it with tight vocal harmonies and unique instrumental interpretations. With songs about wide open spaces, rivers, romance and legends of the west, they represent all that is good in American music.
Randy Brooks: Well, what can you say about Randy the writer of “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer?” After all these years he continues to write and perform his zany brand of original songs to the delight of his audience as he delivers the unexpected. This Dallas-based songwriter was voted SESAC songwriter of the year, for “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.”
Rick Sparks: Residing now in Virginia City, he brings over 40 years in the music industry to the band. In addition to his smooth vocals, he is equally at home playing banjo, guitar, mandolin, dobro and pedal steel guitar. He’s developed a reputation as an outstanding teacher on all of his instruments as well as working with many students.
Karen Roemmich: Upon inheriting a guitar and her musical inspiration from her sister, she taught herself to play the stand-up bass. She has an excellent ear for music helping to create the band’s smooth, close harmony blend as well as providing a solid rhythm for the band. She also calls Virginia City home.
