Fourth of July Activities and Fun for the Whole Family in Virginia City

WHEN: July 4, 2023 – ALL DAY

WHERE: Historic Virginia City, Nevada

WHAT: Each year, historic Virginia City, Nevada, hosts an Independence Day celebration all Americans can be proud of, complete with a parade, live concert, all the small-town Americana, waving flags, candy throwing and of course, a fireworks display sure to resonate deep in the hearts of everyone in attendance. In 2023, the tradition continues July 4 in the mining town known for the discovery of the Comstock Lode, America’s largest silver ore deposit to date.

SCHEDULE: ALL DAY: Shopping and dining at local merchants, train rides on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, tours, museums, attractions and more. Spend the day with the family learning about Virginia City’s unique mining history while enjoying the jovial, patriotic atmosphere of a small town Independence Day celebration.

12 p.m. – Annual Fourth of July Parade takes place on C Street, beginning at the Fourth Ward School. This parade is the largest parade of the year in Virginia City with nearly 50 entries expected to participate, including several veterans groups, the Living Legends, and the crowd favorite dancing horses. Attendees are encouraged to come up early to save a spot!

5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. – Star Spangled Murder Mystery Train on the V&T Railroad. Guests can participate in and engaging theatrical experience on board the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Tickets must be purchased in advance here.

6 p.m. – David John & the Comstock Cowboys Free Second Amendment Concert at the Bucket of Blood parking lot.

Dusk – Fireworks Spectacular. Fireworks will be launched from below the Silverland Inn & Suites, giving attendees a great view from pretty much anywhere they are in Virginia City. Donations are being accepted to help the Virginia City Tourism Commission pay for the fireworks display. Donate here.
