Hot August Nights Revs Up in Virginia City
This Comstock town welcomes rumbling engine and nostalgic tunes for its 5th year.
Take a step back in time and stroll down the wooden boardwalks of the historic mining town of Virginia City, Nev. as it rumbles to life with 400 vintage vehicles Friday, Aug. 2 to Saturday, Aug.3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. This sold out event kicks off the 10-day celebration to the 33rd annual Hot August Nights festival in Reno-Sparks held Aug. 6 through Aug. 11.
The blend of mining and chrome offers visitors a classic nostalgic experience in a historic setting. Play a hand on the Poker Walk as you peruse the shops or take a gamble on the Hot August Nights Foundation 50/50 raffle and see if you will be the next one to strike gold! Nostalgic tunes fill the air with live entertainment from Route 66… The Band and Lady and the Tramps as the Classic Car Show-n-Shine lines C Street, the town’s main drag.
Saturday brings the Celebrity Choice Show-n-Shine honoring the most impressive models with trophies and ribbons at an awards presentation at 3:30 p.m. at the Delta Saloon lot stage. Each day from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. gives spectators a chance to see all the antique automobiles take to the street for a Classic Car Cruise.
Trailer parking is available at the Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds, located on F Street near the V&T Depot; no charge for parking. Free shuttle rides are offered for both Friday and Saturday during the event. Spectators are free and encouraged to attend.
