Luck, Lore and a Little Bit of Shenanigans
If you’re looking for a quiet St. Patrick’s Day… you may want to keep driving.
But if you’re looking for a full day of Irish cheer, historic streets filled with music and laughter, and maybe a few surprises along the way, well… welcome to Virginia City.
’Round here, St. Patrick’s Day isn’t just a holiday. It’s a full-blown celebration that starts early, winds through the historic streets, and somehow ends with everyone a little luckier than when they arrived.
So grab something festive, lace up your boots, and let’s walk through the day.
If you’re feeling brave, Virginia City has a tradition that’s become legendary.
From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry takes over C street, serving up a Western delicacy that’s famous across the Comstock… and definitely not from the ocean.
Visitors can sample the iconic dish while enjoying the lively St. Patrick’s Day atmosphere, historic streets and a crowd that’s always up for a little culinary adventure.
First-timer? Don’t worry. ‘Round here we say the same thing every year: just try one.
By midday, C Street is alive with music, laughter and a whole lot of green.
From 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., the St. Patrick’s Day Parade rolls through the heart of Virginia City. Expect bagpipes, festive floats, local groups, and plenty of green lining the historic boardwalks. It’s small-town charm at its absolute best.
And as the last float passes by, the celebration is just getting started.
From 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the St. Paddy Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl invites visitors to explore Virginia City the way it was meant to be explored: one historic saloon at a time. With festive drinks, lively crowds and plenty of Irish charm, it’s the perfect way to soak up the day. You might even catch the Black Irish Band performing on C street.
And if the parade and the crawl leave you in the mood for even more music, you’re in luck.
From 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s in the Mountains Catholic Church live St. Patrick’s Day music fills the air with classic Irish tunes and crowd favorites that will have you clapping, dancing and maybe even attempting a jig or two.
No judgment here.
And if your St. Patrick’s Day spirit is still going strong after sunset, Virginia City has one more adventure waiting.
The Mackay Mansion will be hosting a guided night investigation inside one of the Comstock’s most intriguing historic homes. Guests explore the mansion after dark with paranormal investigation equipment while learning about the stories and spirits said to linger within its walls.
The investigation runs from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and reservations are required.
Whether you’re a history buff, paranormal enthusiast or simply curious, it’s a fascinating way to experience one of Virginia City’s most storied landmarks.
By the time the sun begins to dip behind the surrounding hills, Virginia City will have delivered a full day of St. Patrick’s Day fun, complete with music, laughter, historic charm and more than a little Irish luck.
Whether you came for the parade, the oysters, or the saloon crawl, one thing is certain:
St. Patrick’s Day is always a little more spirited on the Comstock.
So bring your green, bring your friends and come celebrate where history, tradition and a touch of mischief always go hand in hand.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Virginia City.
