Bringing powerful Celtic spirit to Virginia City’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration is the legendary Black Irish Band — a group with more than 36 years of honoring the Irish and Scots who helped build America.

Hailing from the Sierra Nevada Mountains — where Irish and Scottish immigrants once came seeking gold and silver in the 1850s — the Black Irish Band tells the story of the working-class men and women who built the mines, railroads, cities, and communities that shaped the American West.

Unlike typical cover bands, the Black Irish Band is known for performing original music that captures the Irish and Scots experience in America. With 34 CD albums and more than 120 original songs, their music celebrates courage, sacrifice, hard work, and heritage. Their songs have been downloaded more than 14 million times, with 59,000 CDs sold and a strong following of fans across social media and around the world.

Their sound blends rich vocals with fiddle, melodeon, banjo, guitar, and stand-up bass — creating a high-energy Celtic performance that is both authentic and deeply rooted in history.

The Black Irish Band has performed nearly a thousand live shows, including major historic events such as:
