Statement on Special Events August to November 2020
Virginia City, Nevada Releases Statement on Special Events Taking Place August to November 2020
Beyond our mining history, Virginia City is known for our quirky special events. Traditions like the International Camel & Ostrich Races have been staple event in our region for more than 60 years and draw crowds from around the world year-after-year.
These events are not only important to our fans and community, but they are paramount to the economy of the town and the success of our many locally-owned businesses. Because of that, the decision to cancel signature events is much more difficult to make.
In consideration of Governor Sisolak’s guidelines in response to the pandemic, and with the health and welfare of our fans, residents and visitors in mind, several of Virginia City’s fall events are canceled. In addition to canceling the International Camel & Ostrich Races, the following events are canceled:
- Fiesta Days, formally the Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta de Charro
- Civil War Days
- Labor Day Parade
- World Championship Outhouse Races
- Chili on the Comstock
- Day Out with Thomas on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad
Although several events are canceled, many remain on the schedule due to the ability to ensure social distancing and other guidelines are followed. These events include:
- Great American Craft Faire at the Silverland Inn & Suites, Aug. 8 – 9
- Ferrari Hill Climb, Sept. 19 – 20
- Street Vibrations, Sept. 25 – 27
- Virginia City Grand Prix, Oct. 17 – 18
- Veterans Day Cruise, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
Plans are underway for Christmas on the Comstock, which runs the entire month of December.
Current information on all events is available here.
Our tours, attractions and merchant businesses are open and following state guidelines. Visitors are welcome to come take in the history and frequent the establishments in a safe and responsible manner. Based on current state guidelines, masks are required in all public places and social distancing is in effect.
Virginia City is looking forward to a time when we can safely return to our quirky traditions. However, at this time is focused putting the health and safety of residents and visitors above all else.
